How it works:

  1. Apply for the program

  2. Schedule your first home energy audit

  3. Have qualifying upgrades completed by a licensed contractor or supplier

  4. Schedule final energy audit

  5. Apply for reimbursement (Be sure to keep all records and receipts!)

Rebate Amount

Up to $5,000 for home upgrades + $600 for the required EnerGuide energy audits (up to $5,600 total)

So far there has been an overwhelming positive response to this grant as you can easily add the rebate back into the prepayment of your mortgage or invest it into something that will pay you a better return!

Qualifying Upgrades

Only upgrades that are recommended by your energy advisor are eligible for reimbursement and a list should be included in your pre-evaluation.

Certain types of retrofits can only be reimbursed to a certain amount as well, and there are some that can only be installed by licensed professionals.

Note: Make sure to take your budget into consideration to make sure any contractors hired are fully licensed

Examples:

  • HVAC systems

  • Windows and doors

  • Rooftop solar energy systems

  • Insulation & air sealing

Heat pumps, water heaters, renewable energy - and furnaces and boilers in the case of homes located in Northern Canada - must be installed by those with a license to do so, and can all be reimbursed at the max amount of 5,000

Retrofits that are not mechanical or electrical and don’t need to be installed by licensed professionals include air sealing, insulation, windows and doors, thermostats, and certain resiliency measure. All of these retrofits are eligible to be reimbursed at different values. For the full list of retrofits click here.

Note:  All retrofits must be purchased in Canada and online purchases are only eligible if they are located in Canada.

Important...

Make sure you are documenting all purchases and evaluations every step of the way. You will need to keep all invoices, receipts, proof of work, and attestation forms until March 31, 2028.
