Seasonal Home Maintenance

There are a number of things to stay on top of throughout the year when it comes to maintaining a home. This guide organizes key maintenance items by season to make it easier to keep track and stay ahead of any potential issues!

Spring

As the weather warms up, this is a good time to check in on anything affected by winter and get things ready for the months ahead.

Exterior

❋ Clean and Inspect Windows/Doors

Be sure to clean inside + out, check seals

❋ Gutters + Downspouts

To get them professionally services we recommend calling in April to book mid-May to mid-June

❋ Turn On Water Hoses
❋ Inspect Roof Conditions
❋ Inspect Brickwork

Repair as needed

❋ Outdoor Furniture

Unpack that furniture and get ready to use it!

Interior

❋ Furnace/AC 

Replace furnace filter every 3-6 months and service units every 2 years

❋ Inspect + Test Smoke/CO Detectors

Change batteries every 6 months, replace every 10 years

❋ Inspect + Clean Out Dryer Vents

Every 2 months check the connection at the back of the machine for lint in the exhaust pipe

❋ Duct Cleaning

Professionally service every 3 years or after any major renovations

❋ Sump pump (if applicable) 

Test sump pump to ensure it’s working properly

❋ Air Conditioning Test 

Turn on AC early to confirm it’s working before peak season

❋ Walkways + Driveways

Inspect for gaps and grade (water ingress, seal gaps, and elevate grade as needed)

Fall

As temperatures start to drop, the focus shifts to preparing your home for colder weather and preventing issues through the winter.

Exterior

❋ Clean and Inspect Windows/Doors

Inside + out, check mechanics/remove window screens (hand vacuum to remove debris + store, covered, for the winter), and check weatherstripping

❋ Gutters + Downspouts

To get them professionally services we recommend calling in September to book end of October

❋ Turn Off Water Hoses
❋ Furnace Intake/Exhaust Pipes

Check throughout the winter to make sure snow isn’t building up/covering pipes

❋ Outdoor Furniture
